With the rapid growth of power generation and power consumption, we should keep in mind an important issue - safety. The safe and stable operation of the power system is the fundamental goal of the power control system, as well as prerequisite for electricity market transactions. To ensure the safe operation of power system fault, the thermal diagnosis of power system has been receiving wide attention.
The traditional temperature monitoring methods are mainly done through thermocouple, RTD, semiconductor, wireless and other temperature sensing element. These temperature monitoring methods are very difficult to realize systematic and reliable insulation in a compact switch cabinet or transformer winding, as the temperature sensor itself contains metal or the signals need to be transmitted via metal conductor. The non-contact infrared temperature measurement method is susceptible to electromagnetic interference of the environment or the surrounding. The most commonly used non-online manual temperature measurement is made using hand-held infrared imaging devices, or electric logging device. When on-line monitoring is required, the infrared temperature probe needs to maintain certain distance from the measured point, so the installation of probe and transmission of temperature signal are also very difficult.
The FBG temperature sensor uses Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) as temperature-sensitive element. As the optical fiber has excellent insulation properties and immunity to electromagnetic interference, the sensor can be directly mounted on the bare contacts in switchgear and the transformer winding so that the above problems are fundamentally solved.
Therefore, the online temperature monitoring of power system becomes particularly necessary.
